Renovation of Apartments in Silver Spring, MD
Hillwood Manor is a garden apartment community built in the 1940s and beautifully situated along the Sligo Creek. The masonry buildings contain 96 units that only been sporadically renovated over the last 75 years. The renovation currently under construction consists of replacing the aging boiler system with individual split system heat pumps and water heaters, new electrical service, new domestic and sanitary piping, and new fire alarm systems. The dwelling units are all being reinsulated, the hardwood floors refinished, and the kitchens opened up and updated. All of the fixtures and finishes are also be upgraded. In the lower level, 7 of the units are being enlarged to allow for more bedrooms, and 4 of the units are being converted to comply with UFAS. Finally, new outdoor seating plazas are being created and one of the boiler rooms is being converted to a leasing office and community room with a large picture window overlooking the creek.
